victorian
Pink and white dominate this unique
"Victorian" style kitchen. It lies within a home that
reflects a former, romantic era: rooms brimful of heirlooms, books,
gilded picture frames, fragile porcelains, dolls, ornaments of filigree
and lace and other charming oddments. Wall treatments and draperies
are whimsical with delicate patterns and airy appeal.
The planning of this kitchen was fairly straightforward. The client
had a vision of soft blue furniture pieces with open shelving along
the back wall (absent in these photos). The U-shaped section was
dedicated to displaying the elaborate appliances and plumbing fixtures
chosen as well as maintaining the functional work spaces necessary
for the practical ease of food preparation.
However, adding and integrating the detail elements was a real challenge.
I had never experienced this type of project before and had to research
the Victorian style. I presented options to the client and she made
selections; always adding another layer of decoration.
From Ogee-edged pink Corian countertops to fluted posts to highly
detailed leaded glass door inserts to wide, delicately intricate
cornice moldings layered upon other moldings to hardware, corbels
and elaborate white on white embossed backsplash tiles, the client
confidently proceeded with her choices.
The result was a luxurious, yet peaceful space; exciting the eye
with unique ornaments and layer upon layer of interesting detail.
